In 2009 the Town of Turner Valley incurred costs of $10,000 per month in additional testing requirements to the raw water reservoir as directed by Alberta Environment (AENV) following an Alberta Energy and Utilities Board (EUB) hearing in 2007 and 2008. This testing program exceeds typical provincial requirements. Although it helps to ensure the safety of the municipal water supply, this particular testing program is both costly and unique. It was required by AENV after construction of the reservoir, given the long history of resource activity in the Turner Valley region. Results from testing to date have shown the Town water supply to be of very high quality, meeting and exceeding Canadian Drinking Water Guidelines. Given the good results to date, the Town will be working closely with AENV to both improve the cost-effectiveness of the program and better protect the public water supply in the long-run. For more information regarding the AENV Waterworks Approval and testing standards please see the documents below.
